Live, from L.A., it’s ‘Recall Central’
The media circus is coming to town.
The Big Three network news anchors, morning programs and cable news outlets are on their way to California to cover Tuesday’s recall election, which could see actor Arnold Schwarzenegger elected governor.
ABC’s Peter Jennings will anchor from Los Angeles starting tonight. Brian Williams will anchor “NBC Nightly News” from here Sunday, with Tom Brokaw anchoring the show locally Monday through Wednesday. “CBS Evening News” anchor Dan Rather arrives Tuesday.
“Today” co-anchor Katie Couric and CBS “Early Show” co-anchor Harry Smith will also be in town.
The three cable news outlets, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNN, plan extensive coverage leading to Tuesday night, when special extended election reports will air starting at 8 p.m.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, anchor of “Hardball,” has been here all week; CNN’s Judy Woodruff and Wolf Blitzer and Fox’s Greta Van Susteren are on their way.
Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura launches his long-awaited MSNBC show Saturday at 4 p.m., featuring interviews with Gov. Gray Davis and former candidate Arianna Huffington.
For those who prefer their news with a twist of humor, Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” will be in Los Angeles with recall coverage as well.
