Bridge District Officials Cut 140 Jobs, Go to Paris
Golden Gate Bridge District officials flew to Paris for a transportation conference just days after slashing 140 jobs as they struggled with a $202-million budget deficit, a newspaper reported.
Bridge general manager Celia Kupersmith, bridge manager Kary Witt, board President Stan Smith and Finance Committee Chairman Dietrich Stroeh all jetted to France for the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Assn.’s annual meeting last week in Paris, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
The cost was about $14,000, or $3,500 per person, and included air fares, lodging, meals and meeting registration. The district paid the cost of a ticket to New York, with the rest paid by the officials.
