The best 2-year-old quarter horse in the nation did what he was supposed to do Saturday night.

Hawkish, a 2-5 favorite, made it five victories in a row with a half-length win in the $336,500 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity.

Owned by Enrique Gonzalez’s EG High Desert Farm and trained by Concepcion Balderrama, the son of Dash Thru Traffic won in a stakes record 17.29 seconds for the 350 yards.

It was his third futurity win. He will make his next start in the trials for the Los Alamitos Million on Nov. 28.

If he qualifies for the Million, he will be shooting for a $1-million bonus because of his earlier wins in the Kindergarten and Ed Burke Memorial.
