Police Warn Women About Paroled Rapist
Women are being asked to avoid jogging alone even during the day in rural areas, after law enforcement officials found recent evidence that a paroled rapist camped near the spot where he attacked a woman 22 years ago.
This week, a farmer found clothing that appeared to belong to Jonathan Logan Slaten, 67, in the Stenner Creek area. The clothing included an August receipt made out to Slaten, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Slaten was convicted and sentenced to prison in 1981 for attacking and raping a young woman who had been jogging nearby on Stenner Creek Road, just north of the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus.
Sgt. Sean Donahue said the discovery has spooked the community. State parole officials said Slaten met with his parole officer in the Richmond area in August, September and October.
