A Santa Ana man died Saturday after being shot in a Costa Mesa alley.

Ferdinand Eugenio Zamudio-Saucedo, 20, was talking with friends in an alley in the 700 block of West Wilson Street about 1:20 p.m. when another man approached the group on foot, according to Sgt. Loren Wyrick, a spokesman for the Costa Mesa Police Department.

After an argument, Wyrick said, the man pulled out a handgun, fired once, and fled on foot.

Zamudio-Saucedo was taken to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, where he later died.

“Obviously there was some kind of disagreement, but we don’t know why,” said Wyrick, adding that the shooting doesn’t appear to be gang-related.

Police said the suspect is 20 to 35 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches and of average build. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Mark Manley, (714) 754-5356.
