From Times Wire Reports

The U.S. Coast Guard, the Navy and the Harbor Police will work together to tighten security and improve monitoring of maritime activity on San Diego Bay.

The $3-million Joint Harbor Operations Center is slated to begin round-the-clock monitoring in January out of Coast Guard headquarters, where a response to everything from illegal fishing to terrorist threats would be coordinated.

The operations center will merge local and federal monitoring and surveillance systems for vessels, swimmers and divers. Computer screens will display images and data from radar, video, thermal and sonar sensors.
