A picketing supermarket employee was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attacking a truck driver who was trying to make a delivery to an Albertsons market in Fullerton.

Robert Haeberle, 45, of Orange was taken to Fullerton City Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault, vandalism and making terrorist threats, said Lt. Doug Cave, a spokesman for the Fullerton Police Department.

The altercation occurred about 8 p.m., Cave said, when Haeberle stepped in front of a truck trying to deliver goods to the store in the 900 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue.

When the truck stopped, Cave said, Haeberle struck the front of the truck with his picket sign, causing damage to the truck and breaking his sign.

He then pulled the driver’s-side door open, Cave said, began yelling at the driver and making threats. He eventually slammed the door on the driver’s hand, possibly breaking a finger, Cave said.

Employees at Albertsons and Ralphs were locked out of their stores after Vons employees went on strike last weekend.
