Guidebook Looks for Repeat

Share

Guidebook -- ninth, second and third in her three starts for owner-breeder Glen Hill Farm and trainer Tom Proctor -- moved to a different plane in her first race after being claimed for $32,000.

Taken by trainer Ron Ellis for a partnership, the 3-year-old Notebook filly crushed $40,000 maidens by 14 lengths, leading all the way, under jockey Jose Valdivia Jr.

Dominant against six rivals, Guidebook was nearly 6-1. She will be a much shorter price this afternoon as she goes for a repeat in the first race.

Facing seven opponents in the $28,000 starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles, Guidebook is the 4-5 favorite on Jeff Tufts’ morning line and could go even shorter before the contest is official.

Since her win Aug. 22 at Del Mar, Guidebook has worked six times at Santa Anita and it should be noted that the two fillies -- Forever Rafter and Fabulous Passion -- who finished directly behind her have since come back to win.

There is a pick-six carry-over of $78,905 today at Santa Anita.

Race of the day: Nicole’s Dream, winner of six of eight on turf, will try for her fourth consecutive win in today’s $75,000 Clark County at Keeneland, where there is a pick-six carry-over of more than $260,000.

One for the road: My Kinda Town is a second-time starter for trainer Steve Klesaris in the fourth at Belmont Park and the barn strikes at a 27% rate with second timers. The probable favorite in the six-furlong race for 2-year-old New York-bred maidens is Rodney Bay.

Exotically speaking: A pick three singling Fortune Catcher in the sixth, Decimate, Political Rhetoric and Symbolic Times in the seventh and Words In Poetry, Formal Odyssey and Sunny Snowbound in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 1/37. Money: Previous day/meet total: $3.40/$179.20. Total money bet: $228.
