MTV is showing its wild side on Sundays

From the sleepy suburbs of America to the shark-infested waters off the coast of South Africa, it’s Bad Behavior on Parade this Sunday as MTV rolls out two new series that push the generation gap to Grand Canyon-like proportions.

The premiering entries, “Viva La Bam” at 9:30 p.m. and “Wildboyz” at 10, are sandwiched between returning series “Punk’d” and “One Bad Trip,” giving MTV two hours of programming it calls “The Sunday Stew.”

For many viewers under 30, the shows are a feast of outrageous practical jokes, stunts and don’t-try-this-at-home derring-do. Older viewers, however, might end up with a case of terminal indigestion.

Both new series have dipped into the murky talent pool of “Jackass” for their stars. “Viva” features a glimpse into the real-world exploits of skateboard icon Bam Margera. Bam shares a well-appointed two-story home with parents Phil and April, and his mission in life apparently is to drive them insane.

And you’ve got to say this about Bam: He likes to get an early start. The household is awakened at 5 a.m. by the roar of a chain saw ripping through the second-story flooring in order to install a fireman’s pole to the first level.

Before lunch, Bam and his motley crew of sniggering pals have packed shredded meat into Phil’s toothpaste tube, placed iron-on hamburger decals on every piece of clothing dear old Dad owns, and crushed Phil’s beloved 1978 Econoline van into a steel cube. But to show he isn’t all bad, Bam packs his folks off in a limo to Atlanta City for some quick R&R.; But wait until you see what they come home to. As one of Bam’s buddies says, “Glad it’s not my house.”

The other new show, “Wildboyz,” has Steve-O and Chris Pontius doing some of the same sort of shtick they did on “Jackass,” only in a more exotic locale. They chase ostriches while wearing thongs, munch on kudu droppings and compare anatomical features with a baboon.

But most of the carrying-on involves great white sharks, and there’s footage that would make even National Geographic proud. The stars’ parents, however, might feel differently.
