John T. Gurash, former chairman and chief executive officer of INA Corp., an insurance carrier, died Tuesday in Pasadena. He was 92. He had suffered a fall earlier this month.
Gurash helped implement the merger of INA and Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. to create Cigna Corp. He later held positions as president, chairman or CEO of eight other companies, and served on many boards of directors.
Gurash served on the board of the Weingart Foundation for many years and was a director or trustee for numerous other organizations, including Occidental College and the National Safety Council. In July, the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena renamed its emergency room after Gurash and his wife, Kay, who died in August.
Gurash was a graduate of Loyola School of Law.
