Woman Is Slain Trying to Protect a Friend

A woman who was trying to shelter a friend from her estranged husband was bludgeoned to death with a shovel in her frontyard in Monroe.
Tracey Helms, 25, a mother of two, was buried Thursday by anguished relatives who said she was just trying to help. “She was a peacemaker,” said Helms’ mother, Sherry Bower.
Michael William Blount, 27, remained jailed without bond on charges of murder and second-degree kidnapping for allegedly forcing his wife, Holly Wright Blount, into a car.
