Ted Tanaka’s name may prompt an image of LAX and its “electronic Stonehenge”: the pathway he designed of glass towers that constantly change color. The Venice architect also has designed scores of homes, however.
About this house: Known for his clean, uncluttered, Zen-inspired work, Tanaka made no exception with this home, which is on a knoll in Bel-Air.
The architect designed the three-story home to have voluminous rooms and glass walls facing Stone Canyon reservoir, the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles to the ocean.
The owners have had two children since they purchased the home, and now they want to live in a community with other youngsters.

Size: The house has seven bedrooms and 9 1/2 bathrooms in about 15,000 square feet. The house, built in 1986, is on 3.2 landscaped acres.
Features: The hideaway is off a private road and has a long, gated driveway. The grounds also have a tennis court and a pool.
