“Testing People for Pollutants” (Oct. 6) is a promising way of assessing the impact of an increasingly toxic environment. The high rate of breast cancer in Marin County coincides with a number of observations: the link between breast cancer and vitamin D deficiency; the high level of particulate matter in Marin County, where the major source of pollution is wood-burning. According to the EPA, “the worst contribution an individual can make to malignant air is 1) burn wood, 2) drive a diesel vehicle.”
