Oklahoma, Miami Stay in Top Spots

Oklahoma kept its season-long grip on the top spot of the Associated Press poll Sunday by receiving 62 of the 65 first-place votes after a 34-20 victory at Colorado on Saturday. Miami, which did not play this week, got the other three first-place votes.
The Sooners (8-0) received 1,622 points in balloting by the panel of sports writers and broadcasters. The Hurricanes (7-0) had 1,563.
USC moved up two spots to No. 3 as a result of its first win at Washington in 10 years.
The Trojans (7-1) matched their highest ranking of the season after beating the Huskies, 43-23. They jumped over Virginia Tech, which fell from third to 10th following a 28-7 loss at West Virginia last Wednesday night. Georgia remained fourth after beating Alabama Birmingham, 16-13.
Northern Illinois also fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and saw its bid to challenge the bowl championship series rankings end with a 34-18 loss at Bowling Green. The Huskies dropped from 12th to a tie with Missouri at 21st.
Texas Christian (8-0), the only other undefeated team in major college football, remained 15th after beating Houston, 62-55.
The USA Today/ESPN coaches poll had the same top six teams as the AP poll.

Quarterback Timmy Chang overcame dehydration and a fever to pass for 426 yards and three touchdowns as Hawaii won its seventh consecutive Western Athletic Conference home game, 31-15, over Texas El Paso on Saturday night.
Hawaii improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the WAC. Texas El Paso (2-6, 1-2) has lost its last five games at Aloha Stadium by a combined score of 224-46.
