Downtown L.A.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is apparently great, but there are two things about it that confuse me. Why all the clamor about it putting L.A. on the map? L.A. was already there, and people should stop sounding so insecure about the city’s place in the world. For all the talk about the hall being the centerpiece of a downtown renaissance, Disney Hall is atop Bunker Hill. The real downtown is “down” between 4th Street and heading to Staples Center, and that’s where the future of L.A.’s downtown will be determined.
