Feinstein Wears Blinders in Criticizing the Recall

Share

Re “2 Feinstein Ads Criticize Recall,” Sept. 3: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) has kept her blinders on. The very reasons she is against recalling the governor -- “It’s producing uncertainty and instability. It’s bad for our economy, bad for jobs and bad for California” -- are all the reasons I am voting for the recall. Gov. Gray Davis is the culprit and has done all these things.

Enough of this craziness. What we don’t need in our state is a bodybuilder everybody recognizes or a professional politician. We need a problem-solver with a proven record to handle the job of untangling the mess in Sacramento.

Restore some sanity in this state with a governor we can all be proud of. His name is on the list with all the other candidates. Peter Ueberroth is the right man for this job. It’s qualifications that count now, more than ever.

Re “Fiscal Health Calls for Painful Remedies,” Commentary, Sept. 2: John Ellwood poses the question: “Where are the point-by-point plans of the other candidates?”

I don’t know where he has been, but Arianna Huffington certainly offers a detailed fiscal plan for restoring California’s fiscal integrity. Why is she, one of the most qualified and serious of all our candidates, being marginalized? Should being outspoken and honest doom a candidate from the get-go? Put them in the debate ring. Huffington would have Arnold Schwarzenegger begging for push-ups.

I wholeheartedly agree with University of Nevada professor Bill Thompson’s assessment of Davis’ offer to the gaming tribes to allow them to handpick two members of the Gambling Control Commission (Aug. 30). It is indeed “an incredible sellout.” Let’s hope the voters realize this as well, come Oct. 7, and seal Davis’ political fate forever.

Re “Schwarzenegger Takes His Campaign to the State Fair,” Sept. 2: According to Schwarzenegger: “By the time we are through with this campaign, you guys will be sick of me. Trust me.”

Trust me, Arnold. I’m sick of you already.
