NHRA Boss Apologizes for Arrest
Tom Compton, president of the Glendora-based Powerade NHRA Drag Racing Series, acknowledged that he was arrested last month for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Compton, of Palos Verdes, was arrested in San Pedro shortly after midnight Aug. 13 by Los Angeles Police, and released 10 hours later.
Compton called sponsors Thursday and briefly addressed drivers and team owners Friday in the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, the series’ biggest event.
“I deeply regret what happened, and I sincerely apologize,” Compton said by phone Saturday.
