LAUSD Doesn’t Deserve More of Our Money
Re “ ‘Transit Village’ on Tap in Valley,” Sept. 3: The North Hollywood high school project may stand as the only example of common sense on the part of the L.A. Unified School District. Citizens would be wise to remember that one good decision does not merit another bond measure.
The last bond measure, Measure K, was a travesty -- it has failed us on all promises. We do not have community schools, reduced busing or wise use of our tax dollars. Los Angeles should not forget that Prairie Street Elementary School in Northridge, which the community fought to save, is now a parking lot. Or the Belmont Learning Center, the “costliest school in the nation.” Or more recently, the Hughes Middle School in Woodland Hills, slated to become a sixth-through-12th-grade “expansive school” magnet, busing 80% of its students from Reseda and Cleveland high schools. Hardly a community school or an end to busing.
Don’t be fooled. Our tax dollars are not receiving value from the LAUSD. We would all be wise to vote no on any bond measure.
