TV Eyes graduates to the stage

It started in 2000 as a goof -- three friends, Jason Falkner, Brian Reitzell and Roger Manning Jr., fashioning a soundtrack to “Logan’s Sanctuary,” an imagined sequel to “Logan’s Run.”

Now the trio, doing business as TV Eyes, has a finished-though-untitled album being shopped to labels and a visuals-laden stage show that premieres Oct. 1 at the Troubadour.

“It started out as an homage to a certain era,” Falkner says. “It’s the late ‘70s and ‘80s, very British and electronic and synthy.”

What emerged is a “kind of dance/rock/new-wave hybrid,” Reitzell says, acknowledging that “a lot of people have tapped into that sound lately, but I like to think we’re doing it in a way that’s original.... I really think we’ve hit something with this band.”

Falkner explains that Manning, his former Jellyfish bandmate, has concocted “films from weird, found footage that are specific to each song.”

“TV Eyes was probably more of a novelty thing in its original concept,” says Falkner, who earned a following for his pop wizardry in the Grays and as a solo artist. “But it’s anything but a novelty now. We went ballistic in the writing of this stuff.”
