Former USC instructor, CBS reporter to head NPR West
National Public Radio has tapped Cindy Kennard, a former USC assistant professor and correspondent with CBS and public station KCET-TV, to oversee programming at its West Coast headquarters in Culver City, starting Oct. 1.
Kennard most recently was executive director of Reliable Resources, a project at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication to improve political coverage on radio and television. Before that, from 1992 to 1996, she was a CBS News correspondent based in Los Angeles, London and Moscow, and won a 1990-91 DuPont-Columbia University Award for coverage of the Persian Gulf War. She also covered the 2002 California governor’s race for KCET.

NPR executive -- An article in Friday’s Calendar about the new head of National Public Radio’s West Coast headquarters misspelled the first name of Cinny Kennard as Cindy.
At NPR West she’ll oversee daily production of the two programs originating there, “The Tavis Smiley Show” and “Day to Day,” as well as manage the bureau’s full-time staff of 40.
Bruce Drake, vice president for NPR News, said that, along with her 25 years of experience, Kennard “brings to the job many strong links to the L.A. entertainment, political, business and academic communities. We’re confident she’ll pull together a solid team and continue the work of making NPR West what we always intended it to be -- a major center for innovation and growth for NPR programming.”
