A 14-year-old boy charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a young friend will probably avoid prosecution.

The parents of the teen agreed Thursday that he would participate in a program to deal with his “developmental issues,” the youth’s attorney, Gerald Carrasco, said. The voluntary decision was made during a jurisdictional juvenile court hearing.

It means the boy probably won’t be prosecuted on the charges, which include recklessly causing a Creston trailer fire that killed Aron Clark Jr., 11, on April 12. Both boys were camping in a trailer at the time of the accident.

Investigators said the boys were playing with matches.
