USC finished last season ranked No. 1, a distinction the school also might hold when it comes to the price of tickets for spring football games and scrimmages.

Walk-up general admission for the annual Trojan Huddle today at the Coliseum is $25, which includes a lunch ticket redeemable for two hamburgers and two soft drinks. Parking is $6. The scrimmage begins at 11 a.m.

Last year, the event drew an estimated 5,000.

Louisiana State and Oklahoma charge $10 for adults on the day of their spring games, which attract as many as 20,000 fans and are televised live.

Ohio State charges $5 for its spring game, which drew 56,000 last season and is televised live and on a tape-delayed basis.

Notre Dame charges $10 for the Blue-Gold game. The Fighting Irish drew more than 20,000 fans last year. A few years ago, an estimated 17,000 showed up despite a driving rainstorm.

Notre Dame stopped televising its spring game a few years ago. Chris Masters, a school spokesman, said the practice was stopped because of concern that other schools were using the broadcast for scouting purposes.

USC Coach Pete Carroll said he turned down a request to have today’s game televised.

“We don’t need to put that on tape for everybody,” he said. “Competitively, I would never agree to that.

“If [other schools] want to do it, that’s OK. It was wonderful watching Auburn play last spring.”

Unlike last year when the quarterback position was up for grabs, Carroll said no positions would be decided based on performances today. “I don’t think there’s any really critical key decisions to be made,” Carroll said.... Sophomore tailback Reggie Bush has provided many of the highlight moments this spring, but redshirt freshman Desmond Reed also has stood out in a similar multipurpose role. “He’s not as big as Reggie, but he certainly can make people miss,” Carroll said.... Incoming freshmen defensive linemen Jeff Schweiger and Thomas Herring, center Jeff Byers, lineman Chilo Rachal and junior college safety Scott Ware were among observers at practice Friday.
