From Times Staff and Wire Reports

More than 2,800 votes cast in San Diego County during the March 2 primary election were miscounted when electronic scanners used to count absentee ballots overloaded the system, county officials said.

The miscounts did not affect the election’s outcome, they said.

Most of the errors occurred in the Democratic presidential race, where votes cast for John Kerry were credited to Dick Gephardt.
