The Minnesota Twins set a Comerica Park record with six homers, including two by light-hitting catcher Henry Blanco, and handed the Detroit Tigers their first loss of the season, 10-5, Saturday.

“The ball was really jumping out there today,” Twin Manager Ron Gardenhire said. “They’ve made some adjustments to this park, and the ball carries better than it used to, but days like this are still pretty unusual....Those weren’t cheapies we were hitting, either.”

The Tigers, who lost their first nine games last season and lost an American League-record 119 games, had been the last unbeaten team in the majors at 4-0.

Blanco, a former Dodger who entered 2004 with a .219 career batting average and 27 homers in six major league seasons, homered in the second and ninth for his first two hits of the season.

Oakland 2, Seattle 1 -- Tim Hudson pitched a four-hitter at Oakland for the first complete game in the majors this season and the Athletics dealt the Mariners their fifth consecutive loss. They are the only winless team in the majors.

Hudson (1-0) threw only 86 pitches and retired the final 11 batters.

The Mariners are 0-5 for the first time since 1994. Gil Meche (0-1) dropped to 0-4 in six career starts against the A’s.

Boston 4, Toronto 1 -- Pedro Martinez held the Blue Jays to four hits over 7 2/3 innings to outpitch Cy Young winner Roy Halladay (0-2), and the Red Sox scored all their runs on homers at Fenway Park.

Martinez (1-1), who pitched well on opening day but took the loss at Baltimore, struck out seven, walked two and did not allow a runner past second base until Orlando Hudson homered in the seventh.

Chicago 7, New York 3 -- Left-hander Mark Buehrle (1-0) shut down the Yankees on three singles over eight innings at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have scored only 16 runs in five games since their season-opening Tokyo trip, going 2-3 against Tampa Bay and the White Sox.

Kansas City 7, Cleveland 6 -- Aaron Guiel lined a two-out single to center with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning to drive in Rich Thompson with the winning run for the Royals, who had tied it with three runs in the ninth.
