Curt Schilling witnessed what the Boston Red Sox saw so many times last season, a game-winning home run by David Ortiz.

Schilling pitched eight innings in his Fenway Park debut for Boston, and Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the 12th Sunday that gave the Red Sox a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ortiz hit his third homer of the season after hitting only two through the end of last May. He hit 29 the rest of the way and finished third in slugging percentage in the American League.

Ortiz nearly won the game in the bottom of the ninth with Mark Bellhorn at second, but center fielder Vernon Wells made a leaping catch against the wall for the third out.

“This is a team, offensively, that you don’t want to give us too many chances,” Schilling said.

Detroit 6, Minnesota 5 -- Craig Monroe’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Tigers their fifth win in six games. Rondell White walked with one out, and pinch-runner Andres Torres stole second. Monroe followed with a line single to left off Joe Roa (1-1).

Former Dodger Steve Colyer (1-0) earned his first major league victory with an inning of scoreless relief.

Tampa Bay 10, Baltimore 1 -- Victor Zambrano won his third game of the season by yielding one run over 6 2/3 innings at St. Petersburg, Fla. He pitched out of trouble throughout, holding the Orioles to two hits in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position.

The right-hander is the first starting pitcher to win three times through his team’s first seven games since Kevin Appier accomplished the feat for Kansas City in 1995.
