U.S. Sets Final Duties on Chinese Televisions

The Commerce Department said it had imposed final anti-dumping duties of as much as 78.45% on more than $276 million of televisions from China.
Chinese exports to the U.S. of the 21-inch and larger TVs at issue surged from 56,295 in 2001 to nearly 1.76 million in 2003.
The Commerce Department set final duties of 4.35% to 24.48% on 13 Chinese TV makers, down from preliminary levels of 27.94% to 45.87%. It also announced for the first time a China-wide duty of 78.45% on TVs made by state-owned companies.
Leading U.S. retailers will testify before the U.S. International Trade Commission today in an effort to have the duties killed before they go into effect in June.
