Border Park to Reopen Following Road Work
- Share via
The most southwesterly park in the continental United States is set to reopen, thanks to an $8.4-million project to keep an access road free of mud and debris.
Monument Road, which provides access to Border Field State Park, is to reopen Saturday for the first time in seven months, said Mike Wells, manager of the Tijuana Estuary and the park. Crews did not complete work on the Goat Canyon Enhancement Project because of heavy rains in February, but enough progress was made on two basins to allow the road to reopen, Wells said. The current nesting season for endangered and threatened birds in the area means crews cannot resume work until September.
