2-Year-Olds Take Their Turn

For the first time this year, Southern California 2-year-olds will stretch out beyond the straightaway two furlongs in a pair of maiden races today at Hollywood Park.

In the third race, California-bred colts will go the one-turn 4 1/2 furlongs, and, in the eighth, California-bred fillies will run the same distance.

Lotta Loot, a son of Latin American owned by Ben Warren and trained by Cliff Sise Jr., is the 2-1 favorite on Russ Hudak’s morning line as he gets blinkers in his second start.

Lotta Loot finished fifth at 3-1 in his debut going a quarter of a mile March 25 at Santa Anita. Javier Santiago will ride the colt for the first time.

His opponents include five first-time starters, including Swiss Address and Mr. Fondue, both sons of Swiss Yodeler.

In the eighth, Rents Due, who was second at 2-1 and 7-5 in her two starts at Santa Anita, is the 2-1 morning line choice against seven foes.

Race of the day: Evening Attire will make his first start at Keeneland in today’s $150,000 Ben Ali, a Grade III at 1 1/8 miles.

Cornelio Velasquez will ride the 6-year-old Black Tie Affair gelding. Also in the field will be Congrats, American Style, Jersey Giant, Sarava, Sir Cherokee and Midway Road.

One for the road: Destiny Bay should improve with the experience of a race for Team Valor Stables and trainer Ralph Nicks in today’s fourth race at Keeneland.

Pat Day will ride the 3-year-old Mt. Livermore filly in the $50,000 maiden affair at seven furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Aclevershadeofjade, The Dempsey Look and Ugotadowhatugotado in the fifth, Surprized in the sixth, Arvada, Harbor Blues and Dancing Sands in the seventh and Rents Due and I Can Yodele in the eighth.
