June Pointer Whitmore, formerly of the singing group the Pointer Sisters, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and a smoking device, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Monday.

Whitmore, 50, was arrested April 22 in the 1800 block of Cherokee Street in Hollywood after police discovered cocaine and cocaine pipes in her possession, officials said.

Officers said they were responding to residents’ complaints when they found and interviewed her outside her sister Bonnie Pointer’s apartment.

Whitmore was released on $10,000 bail Saturday, and is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday.

She has not performed with the Pointer Sisters for at least four years, said Marty Singer, the group’s attorney.

He said her sisters, Anita and Ruth Pointer, asked her to leave the group several years ago.
