Re “School Food: Texas Gets It,” editorial, April 24: No, it doesn’t. Nobody “gets it.” Why is it the job of the public schools to do anything but educate the students? It is not their job to feed, medicate or socialize. All over the country, the schools are failing in their original mission: to teach students reasonable, basic skills to function in the world. They are filling the country with graduates who can’t read a daily paper or balance a checkbook. It’s no wonder that the average school cafeteria serves fat- and sodium-laden crud. And equal shame on the parents for expecting the schools to take up another parental duty.
