4 Navy Crew Members Dead in Warplane Crash
Four crew members aboard a Navy warplane on a training flight in the western Pacific are dead after the plane crashed on the island of Iwo Jima, officials announced Friday. The S-3B Viking was assigned to the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis.
The four were part of a squadron based at North Island Naval Air Station in nearby Coronado. No cause is known for the crash, which occurred Monday.
The crew members were identified as Lt. Patrick Sean Myrick, 31; Lt. James Joseph Pupplo, 34; Lt. Cmdr. Scott Allen Zellem, 35; and Technician 2nd Class Joshua Brent Showalter, 24.
