Bernstein’s Legacy

Share

Regarding the unfortunate passing of Elmer Bernstein (obituary, Aug. 19), I wanted to comment on one of Bernstein’s greatest accomplishments.

Several years ago, I had the honor to produce and direct a PBS television special honoring musical educator Sylvia Kunin. One of our special guests was Bernstein, who had been the president of the Young Musicians Foundation for 10 wonderful years. His dedication to helping young musicians and his ongoing efforts to support musical education for all students is perhaps his greatest legacy.

Through his teachings and support of the arts, this kind, gentle man will truly live on through the countless people he inspired.
