A consumer’s guide to the best and worst of sports media and merchandise. Ground rules: If it can be read, heard, observed, viewed, dialed or downloaded, it’s in play here. One exception: No products will be endorsed.

What: “Golf’s Hidden Gems”

Where: Fine Living Network, Saturday, 6 and 9 p.m.

Golfers are always searching for a perfect swing and a perfect course. This one-hour special was created to help golfers find the perfect course.

The beautifully photographed show is produced by Terry Jastrow, a seven-time Emmy Award-winning producer at ABC and also former president of Jack Nicklaus Productions. For this show, Jastrow, in his on-camera debut, serves as host.

Jastrow opens by telling viewers, “For golf instruction, you should look elsewhere. I have enough troubles of my own. But for an introduction to some great tracks you may have never heard of, I’m your guy.

“This show is not about Pebble Beach or Pinehurst. It’s about the lesser-known courses waiting to be discovered.”

Since it’s not an infomercial, if Jastrow sees something he doesn’t like, such as the uphill blind tee shot off the first tee at El Tamarindo in Jalisco, Mexico, he says so.

“Not one course paid us a nickel,” Jastrow tells viewers.

Other courses profiled are Montauk Downs on Long Island, Red Sky Ranch in Colorado and Harding Park in San Francisco.

The Fine Living Network is one of four Scripps networks, along with Home & Garden Television, the Food Network and DIY -- Do It Yourself Network.
