Soldier, Marine Reported Killed
A U.S. soldier was killed Wednesday when his truck overturned on a bridge near Tikrit, about 80 miles north of the Iraqi capital, said Maj. Neal O’Brien, spokesman for the Army’s 1st Infantry Division.
The soldier’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.
One Marine was killed in the battle near Najaf’s Imam Ali shrine, the military said Wednesday.
As of Wednesday morning, 967 U.S. military personnel had died since the conflict began in March 2003, according to Defense Department figures.
More than 6,600 military personnel had been wounded.
