Headed for the skies

Celebrated test pilot Robert Gilliland will serve as grand marshal for the weekend-long Camarillo Air Show. Gilliland first gained notoriety in 1964 when he piloted the inaugural flight of the Lockheed SR-71 spy plane, the world’s fastest jet. The 24th annual event, hosted by Chapter 723 of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., will offer enthusiasts a chance to peruse foreign and domestic military aircraft, vintage planes, experimental homebuilt craft, helicopters, gliders, plus food and children’s entertainment. A highlight will be a narrated air show from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Also, a group of World War II fighter pilots and combat photographers will discuss their wartime experiences.
