Architect honored: Santiago Calatrava, whose work includes the designs for the Olympic Stadium in Athens and the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York, was named winner of the 2005 Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects, given for a body of work that “has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture.”

All in the family: MTV not only has renewed “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica” and “The Ashlee Simpson Show” for another batch of episodes next month, it also has ordered a reality series focusing solely on Nick Lachey as he pursues his music career.

Concert canceled: Finnish heavy-metal group H.I.M. canceled its show with Auf der Maur on Thursday at Avalon in Hollywood because of an illness in the band.

As of press time Thursday, a spokesman said that H.I.M.’s show Saturday at the Wiltern LG was to go on as scheduled.
