Receiver Boston Appeals Ruling

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Miami Dolphin receiver David Boston, who has sat out the season because of a knee injury, is appealing a four-game suspension after testing positive for steroids, Fox Sports reported Sunday.

Neither the NFL nor the Dolphins would comment on the report.

Boston, obtained by Miami in a trade with San Diego in the off-season, injured his knee in August and is on injured reserve.

Boston pleaded no contest to a charge of driving under the influence of drugs in March 2002 while playing for Arizona. Signed by San Diego in the 2003 off-season, Boston was suspended for one game last year for conduct detrimental to the team.

He was arrested in October in Vermont, where he is rehabilitating his knee, and was charged with assaulting an airport gate agent. He is scheduled to appear in court on that charge this month.

The Cardinals’ first draft choice in 1999, Boston’s best season was 2001, when he had 98 receptions for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Terry Robiskie era got off to a shaky start in Cleveland.

When Cleveland’s players arrived for Sunday’s game with New England, they found T-shirts draped on their locker room chairs that read, “I Got Your Back.”

However, they were all given the wrong size, forcing the Browns to exchange shirts with teammates until they found one that fit. Robiskie was named interim coach last week after Butch Davis resigned.

Tampa Bay cornerback Torrie Cox was held out of the Buccaneers’ game against Atlanta a day after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Cox, 24, was arrested in a traffic stop Saturday in Tampa, Fla., and was later released on $500 bond for a misdemeanor charge.

“An individual saw him in his vehicle asleep at the wheel with the car on,” police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said Sunday. “When we arrived, his foot was on the brake, but the car was running and he was passed out.”

About an hour after his arrest, Cox’s blood alcohol was measured at 0.119 and 0.139, well above Florida’s 0.08 legal limit, McElroy said.

Nearly a year after Chicago defensive back Charles Tillman went high in the air and ripped a pass away from Minnesota’s Randy Moss in the end zone to preserve a Bear victory, the two were reacquainted Sunday.

Moss and Tillman got into a wrestling match on the sidelines after a play in the third quarter, but no penalties were called.

After Chicago’s 24-14 victory, reporters saw a member of the Bears’ secondary standing in the end zone waving goodbye to Moss and other Viking receivers as they left the field.

Bear Coach Lovie Smith said Moss called the Bears out before the game. “We were challenged before the game, called out by them,” Smith said. When asked whether he meant Moss, Smith replied: “Yeah, that’s who I’m talking about. That’s what he said.”

Sunday’s key injuries:

* John Abraham, one of the league’s leading sackers, hurt his knee in the New York Jets’ 29-7 victory over Houston. Abraham sprained his right knee and will have an MRI exam today to determine the extent of the injury.

* Ram quarterback Marc Bulger left the win over San Francisco after spraining his right shoulder while being sacked in the first quarter.

* Raider receiver Ronald Curry probably has a torn left Achilles’ tendon that could sideline him for the rest of the season.
