From Associated Press

A film industry group has sued Kaleidescape Inc., claiming the company’s home theater jukebox system makes illegal copies of movie DVDs.

The DVD Copy Control Assn. alleges that its copy protection technology, known as the Content Scramble System, is being misused in the Kaleidescape System that makes copies of DVDs onto a hard drive and allows users to access the video library from anywhere in a home.

The Copy Control Assn., an arm of Hollywood studios, filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Kaleidescape in Santa Clara County Superior Court, seeking a judge’s order to halt sales of the product.

Privately held Kaleidescape, based in Mountain View, Calif., vowed to fight the allegations.
