A judge ordered a landscaper to stand trial for the 1985 rape and killing of a Cal Poly student.
The death of Mary Catherine Waterbury remained a mystery for 19 years, until a Department of Justice criminologist made a DNA match when comparing crime scene evidence to a state database of convicted felons.
Peter Anthony Derks, 58, of Arroyo Grande was ordered on Wednesday to stand trial in the death of the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student.
