From Times Wire Reports

Jurors completed a full day of deliberations in Houston without reaching a verdict in the first trial connected to a deadly human-smuggling attempt.

Victor Jesus Rodriguez and Fredy Giovanni Garcia-Tobar are accused of taking part in a smuggling ring that prosecutors say packed more than 70 illegal immigrants into a hot, airless tractor-trailer and tried to take them from south Texas to Houston in May 2003.

Nineteen of the immigrants died.
