Eos Orchestra disbands in haste
The New York-based Eos Orchestra has abruptly disbanded, leading to the cancellation of an upcoming performance at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
The performance, “The Bernstein/Sondheim Project,” was to have received its West Coast premiere Feb. 24 as part of the UCLA Live season.
Eos is a chamber orchestra that recorded Aaron Copland’s film music and put out books on Minimalism and the music of Paul Bowles.
A release from the troupe was terse, opening with “Eos will successfully conclude its mission and close its enterprise after ten years” and closing with “Eos will not be presenting any concerts in 2005.”
The breakup was so rapid that on Tuesday, the group’s website continued to mark Eos’ 10-year anniversary and promised “Eos will spend its next ten years DARING: daring ourselves, and daring you to hear, see and feel what is new, what is old, and what really matters.”
