Windham Edges Reed to Win at Anaheim

Honda rider Kevin Windham won a thrilling THQ AMA Supercross race at Angel Stadium, outdueling series points leader Chad Reed in front of 45,050 for his second win of the season.

Heading into the 20-lap race, Reed had won three of the first four races this season, and was looking to become the first rider in 250cc history to win three straight races at Anaheim. Windham, who handed Reed his only loss of the 2004 season three weeks ago in Phoenix, fell in his heat race but returned to win the second semifinal.

Windham and Reed battled hard in the early laps and swapped the top spot on the sixth lap before Reed moved ahead. Reed’s lead would be short-lived after he missed a set of triple jumps one lap later, relinquishing his lead to Windham.

Reed took a shot at the lead eight laps from the finish but rubbed handlebars with Windham and fell off his Yamaha. Mike LaRocco, who won the other semifinal, held second place until a charging Reed passed him on the 18th lap.

In 125cc West competition, Kawasaki rider Ivan Tedesco of Murrieta remained undefeated this season with his fifth victory.

Contact between Tedesco and teammate Stephane Roncada on the 10th lap allowed Honda rider Travis Preston to take the lead. But Tedesco got it back for good with a nice move over the triple jumps on lap 12.
