One person was killed and four others injured in a three-car crash Monday on rain-slick Lewis Road near Camarillo.

A Honda Accord with four occupants was southbound near Cawelti Road about 4:20 p.m. when it clipped a northbound Mitsubishi, then spun out of control, collided with an oncoming Volkswagen van and hit a power pole, said California Highway Patrol Officer Frank Paramo.

An unidentified passenger in the Accord died at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the Accord and two other passengers were taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, authorities said. Their injuries ranged from moderate to critical.

The male driver of the Volkswagen van suffered minor injuries and was also taken to St. John’s. The female driver of the Mitsubishi was not injured.

The accident, which occurred shortly after light rain moved into the county, caused the closure of two-lane Lewis Road between Pleasant Valley and Cawelti roads for more than two hours, snarling traffic throughout the area, authorities said.

The accident was being investigated as a possible vehicular manslaughter case because the driver of the Accord appeared to have been speeding at the time, authorities said. The car was fishtailing when it struck the Mitsubishi, they said.
