Share

Ernie Els shot a career-best and tour-record-tying 60 today in the first round of the Heineken Classic. No player has ever broken 60 on the European and Australasian tours.

Els parred the final two holes to finish one stroke shy of a record-breaking score. He had an eagle, 11 birdies, five pars and the lone bogey to end up 12 under par..

Three PGA Tour players have shot 59s -- Al Geiberger in the 1977 Memphis Classic, Chip Beck in the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational and David Duval in the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Annika Sorenstam also accomplished the feat in the LPGA Tour’s 2001 Standard Register Ping.
