Connecticut Tops No. 1 Tennessee

Diana Taurasi scored 18 points to lead No. 4 Connecticut to an 81-67 victory over No. 1 Tennessee Thursday night at Knoxville, Tenn.

It was the fifth consecutive victory for the No. 4 Huskies (17-2) over the Lady Volunteers (18-2).

“This is the best I’ve seen them play this year,” Tennessee Coach Pat Summitt said. “They were just a lot tougher than us. They got the loose balls.”

Ann Strother added 17 points for Connecticut, and Barbara Turner had 16 points.

No. 5 Penn State 66, Indiana 49 -- Kelly Mazzante scored 24 points at Bloomington, Ind., as the Nittany Lions, 18-3 overall and 10-0 in the Big Ten, extended their winning streak to 11 games.

No. 6 Purdue 76, Michigan 64 -- Shereka Wright scored 22 points at Ann Arbor, Mich., as the Boilermakers (18-2, 8-1 Big Ten) defeated the Wolverines (10-13, 3-7).

Arizona 88, No. 7 Stanford 83 -- Shawntinice Polk had 21 points at Tucson as the Wildcats (17-5, 9-2 Pacific 10) edged the Cardinal (17-4, 10-2).

No. 8 Louisiana Tech 85, Fresno State 52 -- Trina Frierson scored 22 points at Fresno as the Lady Techsters (16-2, 9-1 Western Athletic) handled the Bulldogs (7-13, 1-9).

No. 12 North Carolina 72, Clemson 41 -- Ivory Latta scored 15 points at Clemson, S.C., as the Tar Heels (18-3, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated the Tigers (15-6, 5-5).

No. 14 Louisiana State 103, Alabama 68 -- Doneeka Hodges and Scholanda Hoston scored 25 points apiece at Tuscaloosa, Ala., as the Tigers (18-3, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) routed the Crimson Tide (10-11, 2-6).

No. 16 Georgia 83, Vanderbilt 67 -- Sherill Baker scored 24 points at Nashville as the Bulldogs (16-5, 5-3 SEC) stopped the Commodores (16-5, 4-4).

No. 19 Auburn 71, Kentucky 54 -- Nicole Louden scored 15 points at Lexington, Ky., to lead the Tigers (17-5, 5-3 SEC).

No. 20 Michigan State 72, Wisconsin 47 -- Kelli Roehrig had a season-high 19 points at East Lansing, Mich., as the Spartans (17-4, 7-3 Big Ten) routed the Badgers (8-12, 2-8).
