Police Adding More Homicide Investigators

The San Francisco Police Department is adding investigators to its homicide unit in an effort to reduce violence and solve crimes.
Officials said they would beef up the homicide detail to 18 investigators -- two more than its recent staffing level and four more than its longtime total of 14, said Capt. Paul Chignell of the investigations bureau.
This year, seven of the city’s 10 homicides have been in the Bayview-Hunters Point or Sunnydale areas.
Police said they had suspects in half of them but had made no arrests and, in many cases, needed witnesses to come forward.
