Where exotic sightings take off

There’s a subspecies in the birding community known as the world birder, who travels, or dreams about traveling, to exotic locales in search of rare and unusual birds. Surfbirds.com could inspire a few more of this breed, delivering news on issues affecting birds and birders (an oil spill in Norway, for example), weather links and articles on bird identification challenges.

The site is also the place to discover which birders have seen the most birds, find old friends met on the road and marvel at the incredibly detailed trip reports. One birder’s journey to Kazakhstan details taxi costs, phone numbers for local hotels and which birds to expect at each stop. Now we too can leap from dreams to plans.
