Suspect Is Charged in ’94 Sexual Assault

A suspect has been charged in the Nov. 2, 1994, sexual assault on a 12-year-old Long Beach girl as she walked to her school bus stop, police said.
Antonio Vicente Richards, 38, is serving time for three later sexual assaults and will be tried in the 1994 case, police said Wednesday. The girl was attacked about 6:30 a.m. in an alley near Pine Avenue and 15th Street. DNA from the crime scene reportedly was linked to Richards.
It was not clear why the DNA couldn’t be used nine years ago.
