Be A Bono, who has yet to lose in five starts and won the Golden State Futurity last year, heads a quality field of 10 in tonight’s $200,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby.

A 3-year-old Bono Jazz gelding trained by Dan Francisco, Be A Bono was the fastest qualifier for the Derby on Feb. 6. He won his trial by a head, running the 400 yards in 19.67 seconds.

G.R. Carter, who has been aboard for Be A Bono’s last two victories, has the mount.

Be A Bono and Willie Works, who ran one-two in the fastest trial, are the only two horses in the lineup not trained by Paul Jones.
