Louisiana Tech Manages to Hold Off Tulsa, 63-60

Louisiana Tech came close to losing its Western Athletic Conference opener, but survived the upset scare and defeated Tulsa, 63-60, Saturday at Tulsa, Okla.

Amisha Carter’s layup with 59 seconds left clinched the victory for the No. 8 Lady Techsters (8-1). The Golden Hurricane (7-4) led seven times in the second half but made only one basket in the final 1:35.

Louisiana Tech, which won its 17th consecutive WAC game, shot only 29.8%, but held a 62-44 rebounding edge.

No. 3 Texas 92, New Mexico 47 -- The Longhorns’ 26-game home winning streak is now the longest in the nation after No. 1 Connecticut’s 69-game streak ended with a loss to No. 4 Duke.

Texas (12-1) used runs of 11-0 and 21-4 in taking a 46-16 halftime lead over the Lobos (7-5), who scored only four points during the final eight minutes of the half.

No. 6 Minnesota 63, South Carolina 53 -- The Gophers (12-0) held the Gamecocks (8-4) to 27 points below their season average, and after they moved to within six points with 2:12 to play, the Gophers came up with five straight defensive stops to clinch the win at Minneapolis.

No. 13 Colorado 98, Buffalo 47 -- Kate Fagan made seven of a school-record 16 three-point baskets and scored 24 points to lead the Buffaloes at Boulder, Colo. The Buffaloes (11-1) led the Bulls (1-7) at halftime, 42-14.

No. 20 DePaul 70, Northern Illinois 60 -- The Blue Demons (12-1) made only four of 23 three-point shots, but were 28 of 33 from the free-throw line in beating the Huskies (5-6) at DeKalb, Ill. Khara Smith led the Blue Demons with 24 points.

Colorado State 54, Loyola Marymount 42 -- The Rams (7-4) won at the Pepsi Center in Denver despite shooting 33% and having leading scorer Melissa Dennett suffer through a seven-point, three-for-11 game. The Rams made 10 of 32 shots in the second half.

The Lions (9-4) were even colder, managing only four baskets while shooting 15% in the second half. Kate Murray scored the Lions’ last points of the game with a three-point basket with 3:48 left.
